Concert Review: Peter Bjorn and John ARE BACK!!!!!!!!!

Peter Bjorn and John are a Swedish indie- pop band that has been producing high- quality pop since 1999. After three years of not performing, I had the honor of seeing their triumphant return to the stage. If they were nervous, they are the best musicians I have ever seen hide it.
If you look at the trajectory of Peter Bjorn and John, they are a solid band. Their music is always distinctly arranged and notable. You know when you are hearing them, which may not seem like a major feat, but again to sound different and sound good is not always the same. The fact that they are both, feels like a musical blessing upon your ears. Introducing six new tracks from their new album, Breakin Point, it was clear that though they have stayed out of the limelight for awhile, talent never fades. Songs like “Dominos,” “What You Talking About,” and “Breakin Point” were all debuted live, and made me eager for the album. Their sound is as spacial and vivid as the ocean. “Dominos” was a particular favorite as it embodied the fun, jam-worthy music this band provides. They make you dance and feel airy.

Young Folks
Peter Bjorn and John are so unique in sound because their music is like layered waves: arranged crisply and deeply to touch upon your sand. With around 16 years of musicianship, these men have perfected their sound, which makes their show even more enjoyable. You know you are getting exactly what you came for. They have the professionalism, confidence, and clarity on what their musical essence is. Their dance moves, guitar riffs, and friendly banter with the crowd exude their casual certainty in themselves. They know who they are, and you came to hear them because you love it. Witnessing this musical coolness leaves you charmed as a listener and enlivened as a fan. When you hear them play their classics,  “Young Folks” and “Amsterdam,” you are, particularly, invigorated. These two songs introduced the world to their eclectic greatness. Yet, what made these classics stand out, is that the new tracks were as good, if not better.

As I mentioned, the band was playing their first show after a few years of  hiatus. They mentioned it because they too were moved by how exciting it was for them to be back. Both they and the audience  felt like it was a beautiful homecoming. Their music and concert is one of a kind because there is a starry romanticism to their bubblegum/indie pop that makes them incomparable. They are both youthful and seasonably wise. Their lyrics are simple and lovely, which oddly and concisely captures their messages on life even more. Yet, their sound strikes like lightning. The lighting of the show especially helped in feeling that strike.  As they played, a group of rays lighted neon colors to match their changing sounds. This added to the openness of their music and the night’s atmosphere. Peter Bjorn and John were back, and all was well again.
