Album Review: Tinashe Takes You On An Edgy R&B Joyride

From Kali Uchis to H.E.R, R&B is receiving a revamp that attracts young people’s desire to CHILL OUT! Tinashe is another member of what I call the “Chill Three”, whom are giving music that makes you fall back from issues and fall into rhythms made as soft as tissues. (LIKE MY RHYME!) Her new album, Joyride, only furthers her capacity.

Tinashe’s Joyride is pure “get your girls” and “sing out loud in the shower pleasure”. It is not the record you put on when you are trying to get work done as much as WERK! Co-mingling seductive R&B, edgy pop, and a nocturnal electronic sensibility, Tinashe has been werking the industry as a mutual predecessor/ predictor since 2014. Now more than ever, from Daniel Caesar to Lauren Sanderson, people are looking to music to either resist what feels like a global, political Apocalypse or, at least, relax them enough to ignore it for a 3 minute track. Tinashe does the latter. As seen in my interview with Jack Grace, people presume meditation comes with silence, but it also come with some welcomed noise.
Tinashe – No Drama (Official Video) ft. Offset

Whether she is churning her voice like ambers over a slow fire (“Salt”, “He Don’t Want It”, or “Stay The Night”) or burning the club-floor down with some trop-beat blazes (“No Contest”, “Me So Bad”, or “Ain’t Good For Ya”), Tinashe draws you away from routines into spontaneous combustion. We all turn to music as an escape, and Joyride does exactly that, but with themes of heartbreak, lust, and self-independence from them both. You could want a man, but you never need one, and Tinashe’s Joyride celebrates that truth. Giving your heart to someone is a beautiful luxury, but not a necessity especially to those that cannot appreciate it. Tinashe’s voice eructs and emits this truth over beats that either leave you dancing or vibing into its depth. Thus, Tinashe’s Joyride is one more notch into her sonic belt that proves why she is so musically relevant and revered. To Buy Click Here.
