Song Review: Junkerry Questions What It Means To Be “As We Are”

Let’s be honest! The music industry is not easy, and, to many artists, it is disappointing. When the art of expression is commodified, it could lose its sense of heart. This explains, why artists like Junkerry, take a hiatus away from the labels to reassess and redefine how music is spiritual.

When the sounds of your heart and minds extend themselves into external songs, you can feel like a real goddess; you have created something beautiful beyond yourself. This is exactly what Junkerry did when she moved to India and studied Indian classical singing. There she found her voice again, and through a mix of synthesizers, electric guitars, and Indian music styles, she created  As We Are

As We Are is like a sexy dance of swords. As you sway to its rhythms, it cuts with  subtle demands for self-reflection. Junkerry has a soft, cooing voice that is quietly firm with its commands and analysis of what “we are” truly is. She sings as if you, the listeners, are her partners in this seductively spiritual dance, where both your soul and mind are moved physically to mental wisdom. Yet, as she sings for you to not walk ways, you find yourself still in this song that hint of funkadelia to it. Naturally, the electric guitar always echoes back the mind-altering effects of the funk genre, but Junkerry’s Southeast Asia influences draw out funk/the electric guitars capacity to move the soul more meditatively. By the end of the track, you feel as if you had committed to a three minute session of spiritual awareness. For More Information On Junkerry Click Here
